    NCUA Update

On January 6, 2015, examiners with the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and the Bureau of Financial Institutions (BFI), a division of the Virginia State Corporation Commission, came to the Centra Health Credit Union at Virginia Baptist Hospital for the purpose of undertaking a routine examination.

The credit union Board of Directors met on Tuesday night to review the initial findings with representatives from the NCUA and the BFI. The Board was concerned about apparent non-adherence to policies and procedures and made the decision to place the credit union manager and two additional employees on administrative leave effective immediately.

The Board is committed to working closely with the NCUA and the BFI and is meeting with their representatives daily. We anticipate they will be onsite for a period of time gathering information.

The credit union will remain open and its hours of operation will not be affected by the presence of the NCUA and BFI representatives.  Furthermore, member accounts will continue to be insured by the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund up to the legal coverage limits. As always, members of the credit union may check their balances online at any time by accessing the credit union website through Centra People. If you require assistance with accessing your account, you may call the credit union at 200.4689. You can also check NCUA’s website if you have questions about your insurance coverage.

As always, the credit union will mail end-of-year statements to each member within the next week, and we ask that members closely review their statements and confirm that their account activity is accurately reflected on the statement. In the event members have questions or concerns about their statement, they should call the credit union at 200.4689.

The Centra Health Credit Union was formed in 2005 with the merger of Virginia Baptist Credit Union (founded in 1965) and Lynchburg General Credit Union (founded in 1970). Members are limited to Centra employees, volunteers, medical staff, and members of their immediate families.  Services offered include savings accounts, CDs, and a Christmas Club. The Centra Health Credit Union is a separate legal entity from Centra Health, Inc.
